“Nourishing yourself in a way that helps you blossom in the direction you want to go is attainable, and you are worth the effort.” ~Deborah Day
Holiday time hustle and bustle can wear yourself thin..... shopping, cooking, cleaning, work, taking care of the children, spending time with friends...the list goes on and on, but what about you? What do you do for you?
Self care is key in ensuring that you can be connected to who you are essentially. Taking some DAILY "me time" for yourself is not a selfish act. That is a false belief that many people have adopted as their truth and it reinforces the idea that you don't deserve time for yourself to recharge. How can you be all things to all people if you have not fortified yourself? I have been guilty of wanting to do everything, trying to be there for everyone and my health declined drastically! I didn't mean to neglect myself but it became so easy to do. I filled my days with work and taking care of others to the point that my needs were slowly dwindling away. And as a result I became ill.
That was a huge wake up call for me.... Why didn't I think I was deserving of the time that I was giving to others? I foolishly thought that by saying No, that I would be viewed as being selfish because I have been known for my reliability and support. My client's used to ask me daily, "LaDawn, who gives you a massage?" I would always be to embarrassed to answer because the answer would truly astound them if I told them the truth. I would do hundreds of massage a month and it's been over 6 months since I have had a professional full body massage( yeah , writing that just made me cringe, it's a hard truth). I'm not proud to say that, but it is my truth. I'm way over for a great massage.
I have learned in my time off from doing daily massage that self care is so vitally important. I start my days now with what I call my morning celebration. I take a few moments before getting out of bed to set my intention for my day. I recite a positive affirmation to myself, and I do a round of deep breaths to connect with my body. I've posted positive thoughts around my office and I make sure to read over them while I am in there. These are ways I pat myself on the back each day. How I connect and reach deeper inside myself.
There is no right or wrong way to take some "me time" for yourself...... One of my favorite mantras that I wrote for myself about a year ago is "Do what your soul can handle". Look deep within yourself and see what little things you can do for yourself to makes your soul sing, that gives you the fortification you need to make through the day. It could something simple as having a daily tea time, or a nightly bubble bath. Maybe it's sitting in your favorite chair and reading for 20 minutes, taking a walk on your lunch break instead of eating at your desk.....the key is to take some time out for you. Learn to love and embrace you, and watch how others will do the same. These exercises take only moments and they help to center and balance you. Make your "me time" something attainable and watch your soul glow..... Start today, you will be glad that you did.....as for me...I will be getting a massage real soon, until then I will incorporate more yoga into my "me time".....every little bit helps. Get in touch with spirit ..... let your me time take you there..... it's something you have to do to go deep within yourself. And when you do, you'll discover it with joy! I will you peace on your inner journey!
